Amnioreduction

Amnioreduction procedure performed to normalize amniotic fluid levels. Amnioreduction reduces maternal discomfort, improves uteroplacental perfusion (especially in cases of  twin-twin transfusion syndrome -TTTS), and prolongs pregnancy.

Also Amnioreduction may be performed manually or with vacuum-assisted devices. Needles of differing gauges may be used (typically 18 or 20 gauge), and varying amounts of fluid may be removed depending on the clinical situation.

Indications:

• Improvment of maternal dyspnea;

• TTTS

• P-PROM and preterm delivery prevention

• Prevention of  amniotic sac prolapse before cervical cerlage
